Joe Czerwinski began climbing 15 years ago, and has quietly become one of the most dominant forces in route setting for competitive climbing. His breakthrough came in 1999 as he secured a position as the Head Route Setter for the Asian X-Games and Junior X-Games. He continued route design for the biggest production level events in the Asia and North America, working for ESPN, ESPNStar, NBC and Disney, and is now the most experienced production level route setter in the United States. He has secured and maintained some of the top industry sponsors for the past 11 years.
In competition, he has been ranked in the top 20 for every professional level adult event he has entered (PCA 02, PBC 01-03, ABS 08/09). In 2008, he was a member of the U.S. Adult National Bouldering Team and competed in the first IFSC Bouldering World Cup on U.S. soil, finishing 34th. (Vail, CO).
Outdoors, he has bouldered V13 (Pink Lightening Ultra, Priest Draw, AZ 09), climbed V11 in one hour (Suplexing Navajos- Priest Draw, AZ 07), and flashed V10 (Chinese New Year- The Temple, NM 08). He has climbed a route rated 5.13d/8b (The Crucifix- The Pit, AZ 08) 2nd try, and flashed 5.13b (Sour Fish, Railay, Thailand 04).
He has been coaching for 5 years, and is a current USA Climbing National Team Coach as well as the only USAC accredited coach in the state of Arizona. In the past 3 years, he has produced 14 members of the U.S. Junior Climbing Team, 11 podium finishers, 2 National Champions, and 1 World Champion. One of his former athletes has competed in professional level adult events and finished in the top 5 her past two seasons. His team has consistently finished in the top ten at the USAC Nationals Team Award, finishing as high as 6th out of 80 teams (NorCal 08 and SLC, UT 09).
